Is Beard Wax Right for a Full Beard?
Beard wax, also known as Bartwichse or beardwax, is one of the basic products in beard styling. Its particular consistency holds your beard hair in the shape you want, and keeps it there. It also tends to smell very good indeed. Still, with the sheer number of facial hair products on the market, the question comes up: does beard wax actually belong in a full beard? Does it depend on the style you're after, or is it more of an everyday grooming product? We've had enough questions about exactly this to think the topic deserves a proper answer.
So that you get the right answers to your question, today's Charlemagne Premium blog post tackles the subject of "Is beard wax right for a full beard?". Enjoy the read, and good luck with the styling and grooming that follows. Of your pride and joy, obviously. Your beard.
Beard wax
Beard wax is built to shape your beard, or more accurately to shape specific styles, and to hold them for the long haul. The essential oils in it give the product a properly masculine scent on top of that.
Bavarian beard wax, the really firm-setting kind, is made mainly from fats such as petroleum jelly and beeswax. It also contains gum arabic, which is what makes it so strong. That stiffness is exactly why Bavarian beard wax in a full beard is less suited to the classic look.
Since we're assuming the subject of Bavarian beard wax is of interest to you, here's a video we'd recommend at this point.
If you're after unusual styling, curls and twists around the chin and cheeks, then beard wax in a full beard is exactly what you want. Only beardwax will literally hold what you're asking of it.
Beard wax in a full beard? Go or no?
Beard wax in a full beard comes down to the style you want. To get a classic full beard into shape, a good beard balm usually does the job. Compared with beard wax, a beard balm has one big advantage in a full beard: it doesn't set hard. Your beard hair stays supple and you can still reshape it afterwards with a beard comb. A useful side effect is that it keeps your beard cleanable. Bits of food comb straight out of the hair with a beard brush or a beard comb, easily and naturally. Worth mentioning too is the moisture the fats in the balm put back into the beard hair. Good fragrances built on essential oils round off the finish and broadcast pure masculinity to every nose in range. You'll find the right products with us, naturally.
Everyday care.
For basic full beard care, beard oil is the product of choice. Its mix of natural and essential oils leaves your beard hair soft and supple. Beard oil also gives your beard a silky matte sheen. To build on that and set basic shape, you use beard balm to bring the hair into form.

To close, as always, our verdict.
In short: Bavarian beard wax in particular, and Hungarian beard wax too, is only suited to a full beard in specific cases.

The rigid structure you end up with means a stiffly styled full beard quickly gets in the way day to day. We think we speak for every potential wearer when we say a beard set like concrete is not what most men want to walk around in. On top of that, the styled shape you were after blocks any use of a beard brush or beard comb. Beard hair that's near enough glued together can't be combed through, so dirt can't be brushed out of the beard. Beard wax in a full beard is, in a word, not the answer.
To get a full beard into the shape you want, use beard balm instead. It's far softer and lets you rework the shape later. Which is why we'd suggest keeping a beard comb within reach at all times. You can read up on how to use one right here. And you'll find a high quality comb in the Charlemagne Premium shop, not only as part of our beard care set.

As barbers with more than 20 years in the trade between us, we went looking for styling and care products that convinced us completely. There were some good products out there, but none that gave us everything we needed. After some thought, in 2014 we decided to develop our own range. For two years we spent every free minute after work at the barbershop down in our cellar, refining the formulas. When it came to ingredients, only the best was good enough. We bought the finest jojoba oils available in Morocco, and argan oil from Italy.
After two years and a good many attempts, our first product line was ready, and it has been winning our customers over ever since. We think 98% positive reviews speak for themselves. Since the official launch in 2016 we've kept developing it, of course. That's one of the reasons Charlemagne Premium products have won not just one but several comparison tests in recent years.
You'll find all our products right here in our online store. For any questions about them, you can reach us any time at info@charlemagne-premium.com.
