Thinning on Top? The Right Haircut for It

Thinning hair fills a lot of men with dread. The ego takes a knock as youth starts packing its bags, or there is the worry of losing your appeal to women. Thinning on top, a haircut to match, or just take it all off? Nonsense, all of it. Things are the way they are. Below we show you how to handle thinning hair, and why you have to take a back seat to nobody with a full head of it. Stars like Jason Statham and Vin Diesel have shown the way. Enjoy today's Charlemagne Premium blog post.

Hereditary Hair Loss

Some men are simply wired differently from others. For plenty of them the hair on top starts thinning and falling out from the age of 20. Thinning on top, in other words. Finding the haircut for it is rarely a pleasant business, especially when your mates are still out there with full heads of hair while you are stuck with the hang-ups.

A Normal Development

The male sex hormone testosterone, which sits at a different level in every individual, is what makes hair fall out in some men. Thinning on top and no obvious haircut for it is the result. No reason to panic. Over a lifetime, hair loss and thinning hair are a normal path that most men go down. One man simply has more testosterone, another less. A high level of the hormone speeds the loss up considerably. So chin up: in the end, a high level of it speaks for solid masculinity and the sex drive that comes with it.

The Right Haircut for Thinning Hair

As always, there is no one-size-fits-all cut for men who are thinning on top. Haircuts, like clothes, depend on the type. As an individual you can only get proper advice from a barber you trust and have the right cut done off the back of it. Let us be honest. Just because long hair is in fashion, and has been, does not mean everybody is the long-haired Viking type who suits it. The same goes for the trendy shaved head. Egg-shaped skulls with nothing on them are anything but cool. The bottom line: the wrong cut, picked on a blanket assumption, is classic nonsense and best left alone. In the next section we show you some good examples to compare against.

How Do Other People Handle Hair Loss?

Plenty of people try hair growth products to make a haircut out of a thinning head. Minoxidil is the obvious keyword here, to name one example. It is a drug used against hereditary hair loss. Originally applied against high blood pressure, it turns out to be able to slow hair loss and in some cases even encourage growth. A product like minoxidil is really a vasodilator. It widens the small blood vessels of the scalp, so the hair, and specifically the follicles, get fed better. What matters is that a product like minoxidil or its equivalents only works while you keep using it. Stop, and you can expect the effect to fade away step by step. So a run of at least 12 months makes sense before you can judge whether the treatment is delivering what you wanted, namely stopping the loss and perhaps even getting growth going. People use minoxidil for fine hair too, incidentally. It might be worth a go in your case as well, to turn thinning hair into a haircut.

The Stars Do It No Differently

Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and The Rock have no problem with thin hair, shaved head or otherwise. Fine, we will leave out Stromberg, the German sitcom boss, however singular he may be in the series that carries his name. Even so, a shaved head, thinning or simply fine hair is no obstacle where masculinity is concerned. If anything, the men above embody it through sheer presence. And presence is exactly what plenty of over-styled types are missing.

As you have read, thinning hair can be turned into a haircut if you bring the right enthusiasm to it. Plenty of well-known men live with it, and more than that, the shaved head is sexy again. There is a reason several men with thinning hair have been named Sexiest Man of the Year more than once. Our tip: go to the barber you trust with your style in mind and let him do his job without interference. Turn what you have into a haircut, even if that means taking it all off. Given time, we are certain that style becomes your trademark, even if what you end up with is the Mr. Clean look.

„A healthy and well groomed beard is important for a real man, that's why we offer everything you need to keep yours doing so.“

As barbers with more than 20 years in the trade between us, we went looking for styling and care products that convinced us 100%. There were good products on the market, but none that gave us everything we needed. After some thought, in 2014 we decided to develop our own line. For two years we spent every free minute after work at the barbershop down in our cellar, refining the formulas. When it came to ingredients, only the best was good enough. We bought the finest jojoba oils available in Morocco and argan oil from Italy.

After two years and a fair number of attempts, our first product range was ready, and it has been winning customers over ever since. We think 98% positive reviews speak for themselves. Since the official launch in 2016 it has of course kept evolving. That is one reason Charlemagne Premium products have won not one but several comparison tests in recent years.
