Neymar the footballer, who became known for more than just the hair
The world famous star footballer Neymar, full name Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, was born on 5 February 1992 in Mogi das Cruzes, which makes him Brazilian by birth. Since August 2017 the striker has been under contract at Paris Saint-Germain, after the most expensive transfer in football history at 222 million euros. He also plays for the Brazilian national team. Alongside Olympic gold, the young man's biggest success was winning the UEFA Champions League. So it's fair to say the footballer has more going for him than the haircut.
The high point of the Neymar haircut
The best known Neymar haircut is probably the slightly shaggy mohawk with bleached tips. That look defined his hair through the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and stayed with him for a long three years, right up to the move to France, specifically Paris Saint-Germain, in 2017.
The cut was a form of undercut. For the Neymar look, the footballer styled his natural wave into a loose crest. To keep the hair on top out of his eyes during matches, he went, like so many footballers, for the familiar headband. The low point: when the Neymar haircut turned into a faux pas
Now we're at the World Cup in Russia. Neymar clearly wanted to pick up where his earlier style trends, 2014 above all, had left off. Bleached tips on top again. This time, though, the hair wasn't cut into any accurate shape and looked more like a bowl of spaghetti tipped out on his head, as the internet gleefully pointed out. The top was formed into a sort of dreadlock. Sorry Neymar. The haircut was a total miss. Which is probably why he acted straight away, since he could hardly let something like that stand, and cut the pasta curls off during the tournament itself. So be it. These days the young man wears a tidy short cut and keeps the extravagance in check. Who knows, maybe the next step is a proper beard, because:
