Schlager Shows Its Face with the Andreas Gabalier Quiff

Andreas Gabalier, the Austrian "Volks-Rock'n'Roller". It is not just his music that shows up in the German charts; his haircut goes down just as well with fans of German Schlager pop. The sharp cut, defined above all by that towering quiff, gets noticed, and you rarely see it on men. So what gives the singer's quiff its appeal? We will get into that and plenty more in today's Charlemagne Premium blog post and bring you a little closer to the Gabalier look.

So, eyes over here, because this is all about that quiff. Enjoy the read and the copying, friends.

The singer Andreas Georg Gabalier, success has a name

Andreas Georg Gabalier was born on 21 November 1984 in Carinthia, making him an Austrian singer of folk-flavoured pop, which most people know better as "Schlager".

His 2015 album Mountain Man held the top of the German charts for 114 weeks, which says plenty about his reach. He has also picked up countless awards, among them the German Television Award, the well-known Bambi and the Echo Award.

The singer and his hair, one hell of a quiff

The Gabalier haircut is a classic volume style. All sorts of stars, from Bruno Mars to the German musician and presenter Goetz Alsmann, wear this attention-grabbing shape. It is a wonder the quiff turns up so rarely on men's heads. The basic shape is striking and pulls eyes towards it. On top of that, all that blow-dried volume adds a good few centimetres to your height. Maybe the reason you see it so seldom is that a quiff demands a certain amount of length up top, and not many men, however interested they are, can find the confidence to grow it. Either way, today's wearers and stars are all chasing one man: good old Elvis Presley. His quiff was the starting gun for the wave our Volks-Rock'n'Roller is riding. Hair and image go hand in hand.

How do you style the quiff yourself?

A quiff gets its shape mainly from the length of your fringe and the way the rest of the top is cut. The shorter the sides are clipped, the more dominant the quiff looks to anyone in front of you. Goetz Alsmann is a good example here. Bruno Mars, by contrast, wears his quiff more relaxed. The transition from sides to top is softer, not hard like an undercut.

Start by blow-drying towel-dried hair, ideally with volumising mousse and a comb. After that you can work the top into the shape you want with pomade. The right kit for the job is waiting, of course, in the Charlemagne Premium shop.

A man of the world has no reason to fear grey hair either. Streaks make the look more interesting and give the hair accents. Pomade in particular leaves your hair with a good shine, which rounds the whole thing off.

As you have read, the quiff is not rocket science and is well within reach for any man with a longer fringe. The right kit for your hair, and above all for the beard to go with it, is waiting as always in the Charlemagne Premium shop, because:

"A healthy and well groomed beard is important for a real man, that's why we offer everything you need to keep yours doing so."

As barbers with more than 20 years in the trade between us, we went looking for styling & care products that convinced us 100%. There were some good products on the market, but none that gave us everything we needed. After some thought we decided in 2014 to develop our own range. For two years we used every free minute after work at the barbershop to refine the formulations down in our cellar. When it came to ingredients, only the best was good enough. We bought the finest jojoba oils available in Morocco, and argan oil from Italy.

After two years and a good many attempts our first product line was ready, and it has been winning customers over ever since: we think 98% positive reviews speak for themselves. Since the official launch in 2016 it has of course been developed further, continuously. That is one of the reasons Charlemagne Premium products have won not one but several comparison tests in recent years.

You will find all our products right here in our online store. For any questions about them, you can reach us any time at info@charlemagne-premium.com.
