Permanent Hair Removal of a Man's Beard - A Risky Business

Morning, gentlemen. One subject that comes up again and again among men, whether their skin runs smooth or coarse, is getting rid of the beard permanently. For a lot of men, usually because of the job, shaving every day is compulsory. Men who wear breathing apparatus need a clean face, and then there's the classic business look everyone expects. Shaving is still a live issue. Patchy growth or the exact opposite, growth that's out of all proportion, both push men towards the idea of removing beard hair for good. Whether that works out is another question. Being fed up with your own beard, or unhappy with how the whole thing sits on your face, is enough to get anyone down.

So today we're taking on the subject of permanent beard hair removal, to give a few of you some solid grounding and show whether the procedure is really a solution at all. Enjoy the read.

Hair removal itself, the short version.

Laser or IPL light removal. Both methods use high energy light to take the beard off the face and neck for good and shut the hair down permanently. Since the exact physics matters far less than the actual result, and since we reckon it's beyond most mortals, ourselves included, we'll walk through two treatment methods below rather than bore you with formulas.

First the hair on the treatment area is shaved off. Then a gel goes onto those zones.

The practitioner, or you yourself, runs the handpiece of the laser device over the skin of the neck or face. The focused laser pulses, or the light from the IPL device, are absorbed by the hair, or more precisely by its colour pigment.

That light energy turns into heat.

The temperature that flares up briefly, on average over 68 degrees Celsius, effectively cooks the hair follicle.

Follicle and root are destroyed. After that, no hair grows in those spots. For a period of time, at least.

Treatment using the IPL method can help.

IPL treatment, the light based route to permanent beard removal, can get you free of the facial hair.

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. As with laser hair removal, short, powerful flashes of light are carried down into the root by the colour pigment in the hair. Which means dark beard hair gives you a far better success rate than light hair. That applies to body hair as much as to the beard we're talking about here.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, the laurels here only last so long. With IPL, the hair roots are shut down for a period of time as well. That said, IPL devices are on sale for home use. Permanent hair removal, which isn't the same thing as final hair removal, is therefore something the average bloke can do at home.

The smart middle ground, and the side effects of permanent beard hair removal.

Of course. There's a targeted version of permanent beard hair removal too. Stray beard hairs that don't belong to any style are no loss at all to us in the grooming world. But all of it only makes sense if there are no side effects to worry about when we consider going permanent.

So yes, there can be side effects. Even correct handling of the device can leave the skin on your face red or swollen. Normally that settles down quickly and leaves nothing behind.

It's only mishandling the device that risks burns. One thing to keep in mind is that facial skin shouldn't be too heavily tanned when you go in for permanent beard removal. Anyone who spends serious time on the sunbed is close to unsuitable for this treatment, because pigment shifts are on the cards. Those too fade on their own in time.

As you've read, permanent removal of a man's beard doesn't always end in success. It's more a decision you make for the rest of your life, and once it's done you can't undo it. So be clear beforehand that permanent beard removal will still leave you shaving. Which is the main thing most men were trying to escape. Make the right call, then, and shape the growth you have into the best it can give you. On that note, there's only one thing we can recommend:

„A healthy and well groomed beard is important for a real man, that's why we offer everything you need to keep yours doing so.“

As barbers with more than 20 years in the trade between us, we went looking for styling & care products that convinced us completely. There were some good products on the market, but none that gave us everything we needed. After some thought, in 2014 we decided to develop our own range. For two years we spent every free minute after work at the barbershop down in our cellar, refining the formulas. When it came to ingredients, only the best was good enough. We bought the finest jojoba oils available in Morocco, and argan oil from Italy.

After two years and a good many attempts, our first product line was ready, and it has been winning our customers over ever since. We think 98% positive reviews speak for themselves. Since the official launch in 2016 we've kept developing it, of course. That's one of the reasons Charlemagne Premium products have won not just one but several comparison tests in recent years.

You'll find all our products right here in our online store. For any questions about them, you can reach us any time at info@charlemagne-premium.com.
