Charlemagne Barbershop, the Barber in Aachen
The question comes up often, usually after a haircut that went wrong: which hair juggler actually knows his craft, and who really understands what a man wants from a men's cut or a beard trim?
The right place to start looking is a barber and his shop.
Shops built for men tend to offer a great atmosphere, timeless cuts and styling, and dedicated care products for beard and hair. With demand growing year after year, they have become far more of a social meeting point for a well groomed crowd than any standard hair salon could ever be.
Below we introduce you to a barber in Aachen, and to be precise the first Charlemagne Barbershop in Aachen.
The location
As mentioned, the first Charlemagne Barbershop, opened in 2020, sits in Aachen, the westernmost city in Germany. More precisely at number 19 Kockerellstrasse, a short walk from the market square and the beautiful historic town hall, and from Pontstrasse, the bar strip every local in Aachen knows.
The elite university "RWTH Aachen" (Rhine-Westphalia Institute of Technology) is right around the corner.
If you need a fresh cut before a night out, or want to use a gap between lectures, the location can fairly be called premium.
There is street parking nearby in the marked zones as well as car parks close by, and public transport stops are under a minute away on foot, so getting to this barber in Aachen never turns into a hike.
First impressions
Front and back, since the shop can be entered from two sides of the building, full width windows run the length of the frontage and pull daylight and sunshine straight inside.
A carefully drawn "Charlemagne" logo with a gold Eurasian motif marks the front of the barber in Aachen. The main door, set to the left of the building and of course also glass, opens into the shop. It is a light filled space where, on the lower level, six work stations are visible from outside, inviting without ever looking crowded. The staff, meanwhile, are busy and visibly getting on with the job.
In short, exactly as it should be.
So we want to know more, and step inside.

The space
Inside, the barber in Aachen shines with high quality furniture in flawless condition. The floor plan is split over two levels.
First the classic ground floor, home to a barber's main workplace: the chair, six of them here as mentioned, each one set up so the hair wash can be done on the spot.
The fit-out looks expensive, in dark tones of wood finished to a high gloss.
Details like water spray bottles styled as whiskey decanters round off the masculine feel.
To the right of the main entrance stands the reception desk, where we check in for the appointment we booked online beforehand. After that we are invited to take a seat at the coffee bar or in the waiting lounge, on seriously comfortable Chesterfield sofas and armchairs. We go for the bar, where we are offered an ice cold Tannenzaepfle or, alternatively, a good coffee from the machine. We accept and, to mark the occasion, start with a cold beer.

The credentials
The qualifications of a barber in Aachen run on two tracks. A barber's training is fundamentally different from that of a German hairdresser. A hairdresser spends most of the day on the hair of women and men alike, while a barber, anywhere in the world, works only on men's hair and facial hair. In the case of the Charlemagne Barbershop, the owner built serious experience in England and in the traditional barbershops based there, which makes him a barber in the true sense. Our verdict is not only a great time in the shop, genuinely good company included, but a haircut that impressed us. Google reviews at 4.9 stars probably speak for themselves at this point, and in 2020 need no further explanation.
As you have read, the Charlemagne Barber Shop, which among others is staffed by the team behind the first barbershop in Aachen, "Kings Barbers", stands out for the quality of the services on offer, and paired with excellent in-house products in a warm and welcoming room, it will lift any man's mood.
A trip to the shop will be worth it for you too, to walk out with a fresh, masculine style.

As barbers with more than 30 years in the trade between us, we went looking for styling & care products that convinced us 100%. There were some good products on the market, but none that gave us everything we needed. After some thought we decided in 2014 to develop our own range. For two years we used every free minute after work at the barbershop to refine the formulations down in our cellar. When it came to ingredients, only the best was good enough. We bought the finest jojoba oils available in Morocco, and argan oil from Italy.
After two years and a good many attempts our first product line was ready, and it has been winning customers over ever since: we think 98% positive reviews speak for themselves. Since the official launch in 2016 it has of course been developed further, continuously. That is one of the reasons Charlemagne Premium products have won not one but several comparison tests in recent years.
You will find all our products right here in our online store. For any questions about them, you can reach us any time at info@charlemagne-premium.com.
